Indoor Activities for the Whole Family

          December 31, 2024

Winter is upon us with days that are shorter and colder. For many of us that means more time in the house with little ones. Being indoors presents some challenges in warding off boredom and keeping children entertained. Here are some fun and easy ways to prevent the winter doldrums and create fun memories.

          1. Yoga for kids: Yoga is a great option for indoor exercise and is perfect for stress relief and centering focus. Search YouTube for some fun yoga videos and get the entire family involved!
          2. Build a fort: Forts are magical places for kids to construct, imagine and enjoy! Surprise children with a pre-constructed fort or help them make their own elaborate masterpiece.
          3. Create sensory bins: Sensory bins are a great way to explore a variety of textures, sights and sounds while learning. You can typically make them with everyday household items. Check out this link for ideas.
          4. Make an indoor obstacle course: Keep kids moving by creating a safe and simple indoor obstacle course by using pillows, hula hoops, plastic cups and more.
          5. Have a movie marathon: Pick a few movies and have a family movie day. Pop some popcorn, pick out other fun snacks and grab a cozy blanket. Consider visiting your local library to check out movies for your marathon.
          6. Get crafty: Set up a crafting station with art supplies to make decorations, homemade cards and paper snowflakes. The dollar stores have tons of art supplies and fun crafting items. You can also keep junk mail and envelopes to use for crafting.
          7. Have a dance party: Make a playlist of all your favorite songs and dance it out. This is a great way for kids and adults to use up excess energy t.
          8. Have story time: Pick out some favorite books and snuggle up together. This is a great opportunity to share your own childhood favorite books.

The new year is the perfect time to put down the phones and tablets and reconnect with your family by doing fun indoor activities. Make 2025 the year of making family memories without a lot of planning, money and hassle.
