Privacy
We make no effort to identify public users of our site. No identifying data is disclosed to any third party for any purpose. Data that we collect is used only for server administration and Web protocol research.
This statement applies to interactions with the 4C web site. It does not apply to email sent to 4C staff or lists. Email interactions are guided by general net-etiquette conventions.
As is typical, we log http requests to our server. This means that we know the originating IP (e.g., 10.50.12.100) address of a user agent requesting a URL. We also know the Referer and User-Agent information accompanied with an HTTP request. We do not log the specific identify of visitors. We occasionally analyze the log files to determine which files are most requested and the previous site or user agent which prompted the request. Our logging is passive; we do not use technologies such as cookies to maintain any information on users.
Logged information is kept indefinitely as administrative and research material; it is not disclosed outside of 4C host site personnel. Aggregate (completely non-identifying) statistics generated from these logs may be reported as part of research results.
Interest-Based Online Advertising and Google Analytics
This section of our Privacy Notice provides details about interest-based online advertising (also called “targeted advertising”, “remarketing”, or “behavioral advertising”), Google Analytics, and your choices with respect to this type of advertising.
We use Google Analytics’ 3rd-party audience data such as age, gender and interests to better understand the behavior of our customers and work with companies that collect information about your online activities to provide advertising targeted to suit your interests and preferences. For example, you may see certain ads on this website or other websites because we contract with Google and other similar companies to target our ads based on information we or they have collected, including information that was collected through automated means (such as cookies and web beacons). These companies also use automated technologies to collect information when you click on our ads, which helps track and manage the effectiveness of our marketing efforts.
You may opt out of the automated collection of information by third-party ad networks for the purpose of delivering advertisements tailored to your interests, by visiting the consumer opt-out page for the Self-Regulatory Principles for Online Behavioral Advertising at http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ and edit or opt-out your Google Display Network ads’ preferences at http://www.google.com/ads/preferences/. Because those opt-out and preference control pages are specific to the individual browser used to visit it, and because that page is not operated by our organization, we are unable to perform the opt-outs on your behalf.
Non-Discrimination and Diversity
It is 4C’s policy to provide a workplace environment for employees and services to families, child care providers and the community that do not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, culture, nationality, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, socio-economic differences, physical disabilities, or learning style.
4C values the diverse background and experiences of employees and customers. It is our belief that this diversity enriches our work. 4C is committed to providing a work environment and services that show sensitivity and appreciation for the unique needs and qualities of the individuals that we serve. 4C works to achieve this goal through targeted recruitment of employees and broad-based service delivery.

Intellectual Property
The aim of 4C intellectual property policies is two-fold:
- To encourage the wide spread dissemination of 4C material.
- To preserve the integrity of 4C material by eliminating confusion about its source.
This document answers below several Frequently Asked Questions about 4C material.
- Who holds the copyright on 4C documents?
- May I link to the 4C site?
- What about the trademarks/icons and how to I properly attribute them?
- I am a teacher, may I print out specifications and other documents for my class to read?
- I have a Web site that mirrors (has copies of) useful Web documents, can I make copies of your documents and serve them from my site?
Who holds the copyright on 4C documents?
The original author of the document. Many documents are created by 4C and we consequently hold the copyright. Owners who allow their works to be published on the 4C site retain the copyright, but agree to the 4C license for the redistribution of those materials from our site.
May I link to the 4C site?
Of course. Links are merely references to other sites. You don’t have to ask permission to link to this site—or any other website. See (Visit the official World Wide Web Consortium website for “link myths”) on this.
However, you should never do anything (including making a link) that misrepresents what is being linked to, or implies a relationship with 4C that does not exist. For instance, you may not use misleading frames, URL tricks, or redirections that misrepresent 4C content as being published by anyone other than 4C. Note, this requirement to be clear in your representations is your obligation, 4C does not sign waivers about who may link to us.
I am a teacher, may I print out specifications and other documents for my class to read?
Yes, 4C documents can be redistributed or republished on the condition that you provide information so that others can easily find the original document and that you provide notice of 4C’s copyright. Therefore you can print out specifications and other documents. Fortunately most programs include the source URL when printing a document. You should also inform your audience of the document’s copyright notice.
I have a website that mirrors (has copies of) useful Web documents, can I make copies of your documents and serve them from my site?
Yes, provided that you clearly represent the status of the document and that the canonical version of the document can only be found on the 4C site. You should feel free to reference this FAQ or our other legal notices to make this representation clear.
External Links on the 4C Website
Any external link located on the 4C website is provided as an information resource to the child care industry and parents without comment or recommendation. While the 4C staff make every effort to verify the existence and appropriateness of any external links, we are not responsible for the efficacy, timeliness, or availability of the content and make no warranty for its accuracy. We stand by the statement made by Tim Berners-Lee (Commentary on Web Architecture, April 1997, http://www.w3.org/DesignIssues/LinkLaw) that a link does NOT necessarily imply that
- One document endorses the other; or that
- One document is created by the same person as the other, or that
- One document is to be considered part of another.
4C supports local businesses and organizations and will on occasion provide a link of interest on the website when the content is pertinent to a recent newsworthy topic or upcoming 4C-sponsored event.
4C does not provide external links to web sites representing individuals or child care programs as this may be misinterpreted as a recommendation. As is stated in all 4C literature:
4C believes that parents are best able to choose and evaluate child care for their children because they know their children’s needs best. Responsibility for selecting child care rests with each parent. A 4C referral does not imply a recommendation. We urge parents to carefully interview and check references before leaving a child in care. If you notice conditions that cause you concern, please call us with the information at 221-0033 in Cincinnati or 781-3511 in Northern Kentucky, or send an email to agency@4cforchildren.org.
