New Year’s Resolution: Healthier Eating

December 31, 2019

child eating“Healthy eating is a way of life, so it’s important to establish routines that are simple, realistically, and ultimately livable.” – Horace

Families today have busy schedules. The “busyness” of our lives can sometimes sway us to make not so healthy food choices. It is easy to stop for fast food as families run from one event after another. But too much of one thing isn’t beneficial to any of us, especially when it comes to food.

Children need healthy foods and a diverse diet to best meet their growth and development needs. Eating healthy isn’t something children readily choose—oftentimes the things they like best are not the healthiest! So they need to be taught healthy eating habits. Spreading Holiday Cheer as a Family

December 3, 2019

Family Making Holiday CardsRather than a series of obligations to go and do and buy, the weeks leading up to the holidays can be a time of connection for you and your family. It’s easy to get caught up in the commercialization of the season and lose sight of ways to connect as a family and ways to connect with those around us. When we focus on being present in the moment rather than focusing on the presents under the tree, we’re creating memories that will last our children a lifetime. What Is Social Emotional Development Anyway?

October 1, 2019

“It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken adults.” -Frederick Douglass

A World of Difference

September 3, 2019

Imagine strolling down the side walk with your young child. In what feels like the loudest voice possible your child points to someone nearby and says, “Mommy, why does she have one leg?” As a parent a cloud of uncomfortableness hovers over you and part of you wants to become invisible and sink into the sidewalk. Have you experienced a similar situation? Read More about A World of Difference »

Helping Children Make Friends

August 6, 2019

For children, making friends is a vital part of growing up and an essential part of their social and emotional development. Friendships enable children to learn more about themselves and develop their own identity.

Just like adults, some children seem to make friends easily and get energy from being around lots of other people. Others can find this tiring and overwhelming while still others may be slower to warm up and need time to watch what happens before joining in with a group. July 2, 2019

It is that time of year again: back-to-school preparation, excitement and first day jitters! The busy-ness of summer is soon to be replaced by the busy-ness of school. Building Your Parenting Village

June 5, 2019

Parenting is wonderful and rewarding, but it’s also hard. To navigate through some of the difficult times, you need the support of other parents who are struggling with some of the same issues. So sometimes you may need a sounding board to brainstorm ideas to address your children’s challenging behavior. Or sometimes you may need someone to watch your kids because you have an appointment or want a fun night out with your partner. Or sometimes you just might need to share about your day with a person whose vocabulary extends beyond the phrase, “Cookies for dinner, please!” or make sure your child has a friend around their age to play with when you go to the park.

Regardless of the scenario, parents need a village of support! Read More about Building Your Parenting Village »
