          2025 Requests for Proposals

          Questions & Answers

Submit questions to prunion@4cforchildren.org after reading the Request for Proposals document. Questions must be submitted by noon on May 22, 2025. Questions submitted after that time cannot be answered.

Would it be a conflict of interest for my 4C for Children coach to write me a letter of recommendation?

Letters of recommendation are not a part of the application process.

Let’s say I have a $15,000 project. Should my project scope be downsized to match only the need of the $10,000?

Provide details throughout the application as appropriate for the project and in the budget.

Does doing a project that requires we add our personal additional funds to have it completed make it look like we are less in need of the funds in the eye of this donor?

No. Provide a description that is realistic and achievable in your goals and workplan – and in your budget.

If our project will cost more than $10,000, is it good enough to state that the additional money will come from our account? Will we have to prove those additional funds are available?

Additional monies should be clearly defined, such as from savings or from private pay/PFCC tuition fees.

My program is currently at capacity and the best way to serve my community is to expand from in home Type A to a child care center. I spoke with (name redacted) in the city permit office and was informed my address is zoned for commercial use and spoke with (name redacted) multiple times and setup a courtesy inspection. I have approval from the landlord to proceed. Can I use the proceeds of this grants to towards turning my in-home into a center at my current location?

LISC’s Elevating Entrepreneurs in Child Care program, funded through Proctor & Gamble, is intended to build the business acumen of home-based child care providers, increase their revenues and to upgrade their facilities. Grant proceeds cannot be used to expand to a center-based license.

In section A2 I was considering putting something like, many of my children come from fatherless homes and look at me as a father figure. But I also remember that it was mentioned that the name and the initiative promoting the grant has changed. Should I still mention that type of statement in my application?

The initiative name has been finalized as Elevating Entrepreneurs in Child Care. It would be acceptable to include a statement of that type in your application.

It was mentioned our name would be removed (during the application evaluation) to remove bias. Does that mean our name will be redacted from every line its listed on the application? If redacted from every line which statement would be better to write (Name of person) is a dedicated, lifelong resident of the Avondale community. I'm a dedicated, lifelong resident of the Avondale community.

Please use choice b. “I’m a dedicated, lifelong resident…” rather than listing your name in the application.

Do we have to show receipts for everything that is purchased with the grant money?

As we learned in the All Our Kin Business Institute series, record-keeping is important, and having receipts to show expenses reduces the taxes you pay on your business income. Grant money is a taxable business income.

If I want to repair my bus, work on Step Up and make program improvements with the grant funding, how will I write for all of that?

That sounds very broad and not specific. Review the utilization information in the RFQ. Think about what the funder is wanting to achieve as well as the other resources available to you. For example, the state provides some of the materials needed for Step Up To Quality, as well as Cincinnati Preschool Promise (CPP) if you live within the city limits and apply for CPP Quality Improvement. As we discussed in our training, be very specific.

Do we have to state where the entire $10,000 is spent?

Your budget should detail where each dollar will be spent.
