          Enjoy These No-Bake Monster Cookies

          June 25, 2026

Cooking and baking with your child is a great way to teach them about about math, help improve fine motor skills and increase confidence. This is a life-long skill that you can start early with your toddler or preschooler.

Use the recipe below for a great activity that doesn’t require any baking! Start by walking through the recipe with your child. Then, practice good hygiene habits by washing your hands. Once you’re ready, have your child help measure with your support and guidance (especially with the peanut butter and honey). Then have fun stirring and rolling the dough into balls. Don’t worry about making a mess, that’s half the fun!

          No-Bake Monster Cookies

          Ingredients:

          • 2½ cups oats
          • 1 cup peanut butter
          • ½ cup honey
          • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
          • ½ cup chocolate chips
          • ½ cup M&Ms

          Directions

          1. Stir together the oats, peanut butter, honey and vanilla until combined.
          2. Stir in the chocolate chips and M&M candies.
          3. Roll dough into balls and place on a baking sheet.
          4. Put them in the fridge for 30 minutes to set and enjoy!
          5. They can last up to two weeks in an airtight container.

Children learn through play. This is just one activity that can help your child grow developmentally. We have more activities in our Learn Through Play calendars that promote learning and fun for you and your child. Check them out here.

          Avoiding the Summer Slide

          June 26, 2025

A woman and a young girl are lying on a blanket in a grassy park, smiling while reading a book together. Trees and a tall building are visible in the background.Summer is finally upon us and children are enjoying the relaxed days and nights. But there’s always a worry about what has been coined “summer slide.” According to a recent study, children between the third and fifth grades lose 20% of their school-year gains in reading and 27% in math during summer break.

The good news is that there are fun, educational activities that can help prevent the slide. Here is a list of ideas that you and your family can incorporate into your lazy days of summer:
