Child care providers, teachers and all early childhood educators play an essential part in the community. Their job goes beyond basic care. It includes teaching, nurturing and creating a safe and stimulating environment for children in their first stages of life.
Child care providers are celebrated every day, but especially on Provider Appreciation Day, which falls on May 9 this year.
Here are some fun and easy ways you can join us in celebrating your child’s amazing educators!
Write a Thank You Card
One of the easiest and most thoughtful ways to show appreciation is writing a note to your child’s teacher. Tell them how much you appreciate them showing up every day making a difference in your child’s life. Click the cards below to download and print them.
Make a Special Drawing
Get your child involved by having them make a special art project for their teacher. This can be anything that interests your child. Just provide some art supplies (paper, glue, scissors, makers or paint) and let them create their masterpiece.
Provide Classroom Supplies
Consider donating items to the classroom, such as art supplies, snacks, books, toys or even tissues. If you aren’t sure what your child’s teacher might need or want, just ask them. They most likely have a long wish list of items that help your child learn and grow.
Purchase a Gift Card
Consider giving gift cards to local restaurants, coffee shops or retail shops. Teachers love to be able to grab a treat before or after work!
Gift a Bouquet of Flowers
Cut your own flowers or get a bouquet from a local store. Flowers or a potted plant are a great gift that remind staff that families appreciate them and that they are doing essential work.
Volunteer
If you can, volunteer in the classroom or a family child care provider’s home. It’s an easy and non-expensive way to say thank you. Read a book, offer to clean toys or just be present for a small amount of your child’s day. Volunteering your time makes a big difference and takes some of the load off the staff.
Child care providers play a key role in the development, education and well-being of children across the nation. These professionals are not only loving and nurturing your child every day, but they are also preparing them for a lifetime of learning. By showing them appreciation, it not only shows you support their work, but it also shows your child that their teachers are an important part of their lives.
