Ways to keep children learning through the summer months
School is out and summer is here. The next few months are an important time for families to find ways for children to continue learning throughout the summer. For many parents, you fear the words, “I’m bored.”
Here are some fun ideas that will make boredom a thing of the past:
- Go to the local park and go on a scavenger hunt
- Make your own kite
- Go camping in your backyard
- Set up a lemonade stand
- Participate in the summer reading club at the library
- Lay on a blanket outside and stargaze
- Play board games
- Create with sidewalk chalk
- Collect and paint rocks
- Play nature iSpy
- Play hide-n-seek
- Build an outdoor fort with pillows and blankets
- Catch and release bugs
- Have a water balloon or shaving cream fight
Spend some time planning so when you hear those dreaded words, you’re ready to offer options. You could also sit down with your family and plan your cool summer adventures and call it a “Summer Bucket List.” Whatever you do, you and your family are sure to create memories over the next few months!
