Emotions Influence Every Action We Take

October 7, 2020

“Let’s not forget that the little emotions are the great captains of our lives and we obey them without realizing it.” -Vincent van Gogh

Parenting during a pandemic is an unfamiliar space for families. As the adults in the family are feeling the additional stress, strain and challenges that come with COVID-19, our children are experiencing stress, strain and challenge too.

Taking stock of our emotional wellness can help navigate through these uncharted times. Emotional wellness, as defined by the National Center for Emotional Wellness refers to an “awareness, understanding, and acceptance of your emotions, and your ability to manage effectively through challenges and change.”

But where do you start? Here are some resources and strategies:

  • Maintaining Emotional Wellness During Covid 19-Tip Sheet, from Implementation Science and Practice Advances Research Center (iSPARC)
  • Emotional Wellness Tips for Families, from Nemours
  • Emotional Wellness Toolkit, from National Institutes of Health
  • Building Resilience Tip Sheets, from Joining Forces for Children

To receive our monthly tips via email, sign up for our Parent Source e-newsletter.
