The national Stranahan Foundation has awarded 4C for Children a grant of $606,000 over three years to expand its learning circle model for professional development through a combination of training and coaching. 4C believes this model is the next best thing for improving the quality in early childhood programs.

The learning circle model was the focus of the panel presentation at the 4C May annual meeting. Guests heard from a center director and a preschool teacher about how this learning circle model had dramatically improved their practice—as well as from the 4C staff members responsible for the monthly training sessions and the follow-up coaching visits.

This three-year grant will allow 4C to create six new learning circles—two per year—in each of 4C’s three regions (Southwest Ohio, the Miami Valley and Kentucky). This is the largest private foundation grant 4C has received.
