Guide to Early Learning & Care

A free, must-have resource for working parents

The 2012-2013 edition of 4C for Children's Guide to Early Learning & Care is available once again at no cost to families. This is the latest in 4C's ongoing efforts to help working parents identify and choose quality child care for their children.

The guide, published every two years, provides updated listings by ZIP code of more than 1,800 early care and education options throughout the 23 counties served by 4C in Southwest Ohio, the Miami Valley and Northern Kentucky. This resource also provides important information for parents of children from birth to school-age on how to best support their child's development and how to choose a quality child care program.

Copies have been printed for free distribution at pediatrician and obstetrician offices and community centers. They are also available at all 4C locations in Cincinnati, Wilmington, Newport (Ky.) and Dayton (Ohio).

"We want to share this great information with every parent of a young child," says Carolyn Brinkmann, director of 4C Parent Services.

The most recent edition of this guide:

  • encourages all parents to "reach for the stars" by paying attention to state quality-rating systems (Step Up To Quality in Ohio and STARS for KIDS NOW in Kentucky).
  • provides tips to parents of infants and toddlers about bonding with their child.
  • helps parents of preschoolers understand what is involved in getting their child ready for kindergarten.

Recognizing that "Parenting Can Be Overwhelming," the guide also offers an array of 4C parenting resources to support families of young children. These range from blogs to newsletters to parenting presentations.

Brinkmann urges parents in Southwest Ohio, the Miami Valley and Northern Kentucky who have not yet picked up a copy of this new guide to call 4C at 800-256-1296 x1330 to have a free copy mailed to them.
