The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) offers program quality improvement through the NAEYC Academy for Early Childhood Program Accreditation. This accreditation process is a national, voluntary accreditation system which helps raise the quality of care for children birth through Kindergarten.

Since 1985, NAEYC Accreditation has provided a way for those concerned about the quality of early childhood education to evaluate their program and commit to ongoing quality improvements. In 2002, the NAEYC Governing Board established a project to reinvent accreditation and improve the reliability and accountability of the system.
