4C Announces 166,404 Children Positively Impacted, Elects New Board President

P&G's Pam Page challenges agency to make an even greater impact in 2010

CINCINNATI (June 15, 2010)--The sign held up by the newly elected board president at 4C's annual meeting April 26 read "166,404!" That's the number of children positively impacted by 4C for Children in 2009 through its services to families and early childhood professionals. President-elect Pamela L. Page, Procter & Gamble vice-president for worldwide quality assurance, challenged board members new and old as well as 4C staff to increase that number in 2010.

4C's 2009 annual report, Thriving in Tough Times--So Children Thrive Too!, now available online, details the many ways 4C works to improve the quality, effectiveness and accessibility of early childhood education and care in the region so that every child has a positive experience and a foundation for success in school and life. For example:

  • 7,633 families received free child care referrals and/or information to help their child learn and grow at each age and stage.
  • 6,587 early childhood professionals used 4C services in Ohio.
  • 1,681 workshops were presented to early childhood professionals in 23 counties.
  • 2,772 visits were made by 4C staff to early childhood programs and family child care homes to provide technical assistance and raise the quality of care.
  • 83 child care programs were assisted by 4C in achieving quality ratings through Ohio's Step Up To Quality; 20 were prepared to apply for quality ratings through Kentucky's STARS for KIDS NOW.
  • 2,769 children received nutritious meals daily through the 4C Child Nutrition Program.

Seven new trustees along with 19 continuing trustees will meet for the first time in July to review the strategic plan that has guided the agency since 2007. In addition to President Pam Page, elected officers include:

  • Vice president Helen Habbert, president, QRC Associates;
  • Secretary Peggy Barker, attorney, Kohnen Patton LLP;
  • Treasurer Davida Gable, CFO, PowerNet Global.

"We are excited about our new leadership," says Sallie Westheimer, 4C executive director. "It is because of excellent board members that we are pushed to continuously improve our services--and to use data to drive these improvements." In 2010, each department and team in the agency will be implementing a continuous improvement plan driven by better use of available data.
